With my drugstore makeup starter kit already online, I thought it was only fair to give a fair chance to the more expensive products I love too. It gives you a chance to have an opinion on whether you prefer to invest in a more luxurious item, or you would be just as happy with the drugstore equivalent. Or maybe you just like to collect products from those brands and just need confirmation that they’re good before you buy them. Or you just like to splurge on expensive makeup (and I’m definitely guilty on that one). Whatever may be the case for you, here are the one item I would definitely buy for each product I put on my face.
First is primer. I cannot rave enough about a good primer and the importance of it. There are so many out there, but on the higher end of it, my heart goes to the Optical Illusion Complexion Primer by Urban Decay. The best way I can describe what it does, is simply a soft focus effect, just like the one you can find on your camera. It has a pink tint to it, but it becomes transparent once you apply it to your skin. It fills in my pores and gives the impression of a velvet silky soft skin. Amazing!
For foundation, there isn’t even a shadow of a doubt. My favourite is by Chanel, and it’s the VitaLumière Aqua. It has a light-to-medium coverage and a natural dewy finish. I’d say it’ll receive more love from drier skin types, because of it’s water based formula. If you have the budget, definitely try it, you’ll thank me later (and it has SPF15 too!).
Concealer isn’t something I use everyday, but when I do, I need it to be perfect. The only one I found to tick all the boxes is the Naked Skin Concealer by Urban Decay. It’s luminous, so perfect for the under-eye area, and has a beautiful semi-matte finish. It doesn’t crease or enhance my dry patches, and its light texture doesn’t feel like you just caked your face with makeup.
Onto one of my favourite steps: bronzer. And that one is a holy grail product of mine ever since it came out. I present to you Guerlain’s Terracotta Sun Trio. I think this is meant to be a palette, which you can use for bronzing, contouring and highlighting. In my case, I just swirl my brush around and use it to bronze my whole face. Absolutely stunning, and this smell… It makes me feel like a million dollar.
I don’t highlight on a daily basis, but when I do and I want something beaming, I like to use Becca’s Shimmering Skin Perfector in Opal. It’s a gorgeous golden, peachy toned highlighter that brings light to the areas you want it to.
Let’s stay keep Becca close for blush, because my favourite is their mineral Blush in Flowerchild. Mine is completely crushed, but I’m definitely getting a new one soon. I’d say it’s a pretty standard shade for most brands, that typical warm peachy pink with a slight gold shimmer to it. But Becca smashed it. It’s so comfortable on the skin and doesn’t enhance any of my imperfection or texture. It’s a must¡have if you ask me.
Now my favourite part of doing my makeup, the eyes. For eyeshadow, there’s no surprise, as I’ve talked about it in my Top 5 Eyeshadow Palettes post. The big winner is Tarte’s Tartelette in Bloom. This palette is my everyday eye look. Thanks to its 12 shades, I can change it up quite a bit, but it always stays neutral, which is what I love. The shadows are creamy, soft and so incredibly easy to blend. And the yummy smell is a big plus too!
Eyeliner was a no brainer for me. Lancôme’s Grandiôse Liner had to be the one. The packaging is stunning, and the product is the best I have ever tried I’m pretty sure. The bendable wand isn’t what made it the best, but it probably has helped me more than once to achieve my wing. The formula is so pigmented, dries fast and is smudge-proof in my experience (I’m the eye-rubbing queen!).
Again, a no brainer when it comes to mascara. This has been a love of mine for quite some time, and even though I’ve tried many others, they have never taken the top spot. Too Faced’s Better Than Sex is the one that does it all to perfection. I want my mascara to give my length, curl and volume, and that little gem gives it all at once. There are days I’m happy to put on a second or a third coat of it, but for an everyday look, one coat gives me all I need. If there’s one mascara you need, that’s the one!
And finally, let’s talk lips. That was real difficult for me. I own so many lipsticks I don’t even know where to store them anymore. But I finally got it, and I can tell you my favourite lip liner is Kristen by Kylie Cosmetics. I couldn’t find the lip liner on its own, so I linked the lip kit (which is great too). It is described as a warm brown berry shade on the website, but I’d say the lip liner is more of a warm pinky berry color on me. It’s so creamy and soft on the lips, it doesn’t dry them out. A great product!
As for lipstick, I decided to go with a liquid matte one. They’re my favourites, so it only made sense to recommend one. The Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in Double Dare by Kat Von D is the one I tend to use the most on a day-to-day basis. It’s a warm brown blush shade. Absolutely fabulous! It fits my skin tone like a dream to make it look like a neutral kind of lip colour, and it’s so soft on the lips, it doesn’t dry them out at all, and stays put through meals and long conversations. I love it!
So this is finally it for my high end makeup starter kit! If you have made it this far, props to you, you’re amazing! I know I haven’t mentioned any powder or eyebrow products, but that’s simply because when I asked myself if I would absolutely buy this again, I wasn’t too sure about the answer. So I preferred to pass on those, instead of recommending something that I wasn’t truly passionate about, and hopefully that’s ok for you.
If you’re interested in the same kind of post, but with cheaper products, don’t forget to check the drugstore makeup starter kit.
I hope you have enjoyed the content, and please, let me know in the comments what are some of the high end products you wouldn’t fail to recommend, I’m curious.
have yourself a beautiful day,
